Invoices with a PDF, a payment link, and overdue reminders

Create an invoice through the API to get a PDF and a hosted page where your customer can pay it. Billing emails the invoice and, once it is overdue, sends reminders on the schedule that you set.

Billing builds the PDF, emails the customer, and sends the overdue reminders

Billing generates each invoice as a PDF that shows your branding, the line items, and the calculated tax. Billing also tracks the payment status of every invoice, so your code can ask Billing which invoices are paid and which are overdue.

How Billing creates, sends, and collects on an invoice

Invoice generation

Create an invoice with line items, quantities, and unit prices. Billing calculates the subtotal, the discounts, the tax, and the total.

PDF export

Billing renders the PDF of an invoice with your logo, your colors, and your payment terms. Download the PDF, or send the customer the URL of the hosted invoice.

Email delivery

Billing emails each invoice from a template that you can customize, with a Pay now button that opens the hosted payment page.

Tax calculation

When you turn on tax calculation, Billing adds the tax for the customer's location to each invoice, using the rates that Conjoin keeps current for every supported jurisdiction.

Discounts and credits

Apply a percentage or a fixed discount to an invoice. Billing applies any credit that you issue to the customer's next invoice.

Payment reminders

Set the schedule on which Billing reminds the customer about an overdue invoice, including how the reminders escalate while the invoice is unpaid.

Draft an invoice, finalize it, and share its hosted URL

Create the invoice through the API with line items, quantities, and unit prices. Billing calculates the totals, produces a PDF with your logo and colors, and hosts a page where the customer can view the invoice online.

Impact

In the sample, Coppersmith Health invoices a customer for onboarding at $2,500.00 and for 24 implementation hours at $185.00 each, a subtotal of $6,940.00. The finalize call returns the invoice number, the amount due, and the hosted URL, which the sample logs.

Prompt for a coding agent: Invoice the onboarding fee and 24 implementation hours, then share the hosted invoice link.

Apply regional tax from the customer's location

Turn on tax calculation and include the customer's location on the invoice. Billing applies the tax rate of the customer's jurisdiction, which Conjoin updates whenever that jurisdiction changes it.

Impact

In the sample, a rate lookup for Quebec on May 12, 2026 returns the combined rate, the tax type, and the breakdown by component, which Briarchurch Studios logs as the tax on its invoice.

Prompt for a coding agent: Look up the Quebec tax rate for this invoice, with its breakdown by component.

Email invoices and collect payment through the API

When you call send, Billing emails the invoice to the customer from your branded template, with a link to the hosted invoice where the customer can pay. If the invoice is still unpaid on its due date, Billing sends the reminders on your schedule.

Impact

In the sample, Billing sends the second-quarter invoice to Saskia van der Berg at Lanternfish Robotics and returns its number, its status, and its hosted URL.

Prompt for a coding agent: Email the second-quarter invoice to the customer with a link where they can pay.

Issue a goodwill credit and a launch coupon through the API

Create a percentage or fixed-amount coupon with a reason code for your reports. When you issue a credit note, Billing takes its amount off the customer's next charge.

Impact

In the sample, your code creates a launch coupon for 25% off, applied once, which customers can redeem up to 500 times in total. It also issues Tallgrass Realty a $75.00 credit note against its April invoice for a 4-hour outage on April 22, 2026.

Prompt for a coding agent: Create a 25% launch coupon, and give this customer a $75 credit for the outage.
